TFR puts safety first

Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) will embark on a national railway safety campaign from December 9-15 to create awareness around railway safety and eliminate level crossing incidents by embedding a safety mindset in communities. A reduction of theft and vandalism within the rail network will also be a focus of the campaign.

The campaign is in partnership with the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR), Passenger Rail Services of South Africa (Prasa), South African Police Service (SAPS), Road Accident Fund (RAF) and the National Roads Agency.

TFR spokesperson Sandile Simelane said railway safety was not only the responsibility of TFR but also that of the communities that surrounded the rail network. “Railway safety awareness campaigns are one way that TFR is working towards making the railways safer. One incident on the railway is one too many.”
