“The Transport Education and Training Authority (Teta) seems to have been able to take the massive impact of the Fidentia scandal of last year and turn it around,” reports Sue Wood, operations director of Cargocare Freight Services, after attending Teta’s AGM in late September “Teta’s annual report is a statement of its determination to move the income statement back into the black, thanks to the efforts of CFO Mr. D. Naran and new CEO Ms. M. Matlala. Matlala is very keen to get relations with the various stakeholders back on track as quickly as possible and identify those areas that have caused the greatest concern in the past 18 months. “She has been appointed at a time of great change within the organisation so hopefully she will lead the way forward clearly and decisively as it is critical that we have Teta fully operational if we are to thrive as an industry in the training arena,” says Wood. Wood is also excited about the notification from the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (Fiata) that the requalification of South Africa’s industry unit standards has been granted by the Associaiton following a submission earlier this month by the South African Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff). “From here the reintroduction of the Diploma will be rolled out across the available training providers with Teta’s full blessing and funding, the biggest benefit being the international status of our qualifications once again,” she notes.
