Eight new board members have been appointed to the Tanzania Ports Authority in an attempt to restore efficiency which has been hampered by allegations of mismanagement. On November 6, the Tanzanian minister for transport, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, revoked the appointments of the members of the board of directors of Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) and appointed the eight new members to replace them, reports allAfrica. “The changes are part of the ministry’s efforts to restore efficiency so that it can contribute more significantly to the country's economy and boost national revenue,” read part of the minister’s statement. He has also directed the TPA management to prepare and hand over all relevant documents to the new board members within ten days from now before he meets them to brainstorm on their new challenges. Dr Mwakyembe also suspended top executives of the TPA recently and appointed a probe team to investigate the performance of the authority. He promised that he would work on all recommendations of the probe team by December this year.
