Demonstrating the
efficacy of its tamperproof
locks, security
specialist Combined
Private Investigations
recently helped to
prevent the theft of
cobalt from a container
en route from Gauteng
to Durban.
“The container was
clamped with one of
CPI’s robust locks
and state-of-the-art
tracking devices at
point of departure as
per normal,” CPI’s Julia
Godwin told FTW.
“On arrival at the
port our staff noticed
that the seals had been
removed and marks
on the lock suggested
that an attempt had
been made to remove
it with conventional
cutting equipment.
But the criminal had
been unsuccessful and
the container and its
contents were safe.”
An investigation
was initiated
immediately.The driver
of the vehicle was
polygraphed and failed
the test, implicating
him as a suspect.
“CPI is determined to
ensure that the facts are
uncovered and that the
criminal is convicted.”
The container locks
are fitted with satellite
tracking units that not
only prevent pilferage
but enable the company
to track them down
almost immediately.
