Suspected drug pusher nabbed at OR Tambo

A suspected drug mule – found to be in possession of cocaine with an estimated street value of R300 000 - was apprehended at OR Tambo International Airport this week.

According to an SaNews report, Wynand Harmse, 51, was on his way to Hong Kong when members of the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (Saneb) in Gauteng swooped in and intercepted Harmse before he boarded his flight.

After being stopped by members of the bureau, an investigation ensued with the drugs subsequently being found strapped to Harmse’s waist. Approximately 1kg of cocaine was discovered hidden underneath a black waistcoat around his midriff.

The suspect has since made his first appearance at the Kempton Park Magistrates on drug-related charges and will remain in custody until 13 May.
