It’s business as usual at the recently launched Beitbridge weighbridge between South Africa and Zimbabwe after a huge storm in Musina last week ripped the roof off the office building housing the Provincial Traffic Authority and Cross Border Road Traffic Agency. The office was almost immediately operational and once the damage has been assessed, a decision will be taken on the repairs. “We just moved the offices from top to bottom – and there was no disruption to services,” a spokesman told FTW. The weighbridge was launched on October 19 to monitor overloading and the roadworthiness of vehicles at this key border crossing. Large volumes of heavy vehicles pass through this post. The control point is designed to intercept un-roadworthy and overloaded vehicles before they enter the South African road network where they can cause potential damage to roads and jeopardise the safety of road users.
