Still time to enter for Gauteng top exporter award

AS PART of its commitment to SA trade, FTW has become one of the sponsors of the 2004 “Gauteng Exporter of the Year” competition. This is about success stories, said Dorothy Lotter of Nafcoc-Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), the organisers of the award. “It showcases local companies, both large and small, that have captured international markets against fierce competition from rivals that have long-standing buyer-supplier relationships with customers. “The finalists and winners of the different categories are role models that show what can be done with innovation, tenacity and a pioneering spirit.” The number of entrants for this prestigious award has increased each year since the competition began in 2001 - with a 50% increase last year over the previous. All companies stand an equal chance of being the overall Exporter of the Year, with the competition structured around five categories: small, medium and large manufacturers, export services, and black economic empowerment (BEE) exporter. The entries are judged on much more than export volumes. The weighted criteria include innovative marketing strategies, continuity of supply, introduction of products or services specifically for export, staff training and environmental awareness. Judges will also consider the strategies adopted by exporters to accommodate the adverse effect of the volatile rand. The awards are supported by several heavyweight sponsors - Standard Bank, the National Ports Authority (NPA), City of Johannesburg, Credit Guarantee and Emirates Airline. The competition closes on September 10, and the Gauteng Exporter of the Year award luncheon will be held on October 14. Entry forms are available from the JCCI: Telephone (011) 726-5300.
