Spoornet chief rings the changes

A NEW MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE has been announced by Spoornet's recently appointed chief executive officer Zandile Jakavula to focus on his plan for transforming the parastatal into a world-class freight logistics company.
An eight-man team will focus on customer service, increasing levels of efficiency, profitability, transformation, safety and communication.
A post of general manager, sales and marketing is currently vacant, but Jakavula says that an announcement in this regard will be made in a few months time.
The new team will be headed by Dr Victor Mkhize as executive manager, corporate communications, who says these far-reaching changes in terms of management structures and of company philosophy will guide the entire employee force to position Spoornet as the leader in freight logistic solutions.
Seven general managers have been appointed to the team. They are Hennie van der Westhuizen (finance), Simo Lushaba (rail and terminal services), Abner Mofokeng (human resources), Chris Jardine (information services), Herman Evert (specialist businesses), Ravi Nair (restructuring and joint ventures) and Leo Petkoorn (planning and technology).
