Speculation continues as industry awaits news of Safmarine sale

THERE IS nothing new and official on the sale of Safmarine by holding company Safren - which has already disposed of the Rennies side of its freight interests to the Bidvest group.
Most of the major players were not in Cape Town in the earlier part of this month, but it would seem that January 18 (say some whispers) could be the magic date when something may happen.
But there is no official confirmation of this rumour one way or another, and the field of speculation is still wide open.
This runs from the one extreme of all the same, but new owners; and runs through a procedure with some restructuring; to the other extreme - the total disappearance of the company from its current SA home.
No amount of wheedling or pressure from FTW will breach the confidentiality agreements that all the major parties have signed.
But, to add to the speculation, we have heard that an interesting story is currently on the go in Cape Town - that Danish is a popular language to learn.
