Ground handling organisation Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) yesterday announced that two of its temperature-controlled pharma centres had received Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification.
GDP is a code of standards that guarantees that the quality of a medicine is maintained throughout the distribution network
The pharma centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town - which currently handle more than 65 000 tonnes of air cargo per year – are the first in South Africa to receive GDP certification, according Malcolm Tonkin, GM of Cargo for WFS South Africa.
Over the past two years the South African pharma cargo market has grown by 15 percent, with Tonkin optimistic that these certifications will lead to future investment.
