CLIVE EMDON
GONE ARE the days when a client just handed over his load to the warehouse and phoned instructions through to the warehouse supervisor whenever possible. Today he may want stock crated and ready to go while tomorrow his needs might be different. In this special warehousing issue, Compu-Clearing is releasing nearly 5 000 CDs to FTW readers that demonstrate how the warehousing client – through the internet – can be put in control of his stock through access to the warehouse monitoring and tracking software system at all times. Compu-Clearing’s Stash electronic programme now integrates his instructions and transactions into the programme as soon as they are made. Werner Pretorius, head of warehousing solutions for Compu-Clearing, says: “It saves time and effort. A multiple liner can take 5-6 minutes if you do the integration – now it takes seconds electronically by email. “We have an Excel spreadsheet format for filling in the forms that used to be sent to the warehouse and then integrated into the programme. Now the client has access to the maximum amount of information immediately,” says Pretorius. “He can go onto the internet and make a ‘balance of stock’ inquiry and then do a transaction inquiry at any time of the night or day. This is without having to make a phone call to the warehouse supervisor, who would then have to go and look up the information. “He can trace stock by looking at the bills of entry. He can say he needs 20 boxes packed on a specific date and two weeks later say that he needs the boxes two weeks from now. “With a simple code and password the client’s reps can also check his stocks.” Pretorius describes the CD as a demo version of what clients can expect from Compu-Clearing’s Stash programme. It provides 10 ‘goods received’ notes and 10 goods ‘delivery notes’ “It gives them a feel of the programme. “We install, we do the training, and run a 24/7 helpdesk.” The Stash programme includes picking slips, 3rd party invoicing, an accounting package, tracking and stock enquiries, online ordering and planning and also has a bar-code facility. “The programme is flexible and can be customised.” It is currently being used by Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, EGL, MS Cargo, PNR Transport, GM Arcache and Rohde & Liesenfeld.
