SAFMARINE WILL take delivery of its first batch of 20 foot controlled atmosphere containers next month in time for the mango season.

The line has in the past used almost exclusively 40 footers, although it has converted a few 20 footers for experimental purposes. The success of the exercise motivated the latest order.

SAECS, of which Safmarine in partnership with DAL is a member, currently runs a fleet of 400 forty-footers.

The 20 foot units are however gaining increasing popularity among smaller growers who don't have the volumes for larger boxes.
