Namibia’s two-year Commercial Advancement Training Scheme (CATS) is bearing fruit, says Norbert Liebich, director of Transworld Cargo.
“We are very happy with the progress of CATS trainees in the group. If as a company you are serious about promoting change and assign mentors to the trainees then they flourish.
“Around 70% of our operations team are former CATS trainees, and I am sure we will see them at all levels of management in 10 years’ time.
“In terms of transformation of the industry, it is important to note that less than 10% of the trainees are white,” he says.
A shortage of skills in the Namibian logistics sector has been identified as one of the main constraints to meeting the government’s goal of establishing the country as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) logistics hub.
CATS trainees are employed by one of the CATS member companies for two years.
