IN THE on-going battle between the world’s two top ports, Singapore has edged ahead in the first quarter, according to Schednet.com.
The port handled a record 1.91-million TEUs last month, 13% up over the same month last year, while rival Hong Kong saw its throughput drop 7.2% in March to 1.8-m TEUs.
During the first quarter, Singapore processed 5.31‑m TEUs (a 13% jump), and overtook Hong Kong – which handled 5.28-m TEUs (up 1.4%) – to become the busiest port in the world.
