Distributed in South Africa by Siyazi Technology, the company claims that once a customer has used a Zephir product, changing back to the traditional type shunting locomotives is not an option. According to a spokesman, Zephir’s range of shunting locomotives has been manufactured in Italy for over 30 years. All products are specifically designed for shunting operational use. The range of products offers rubber on steel technology and the many advantages are passed along in a range of locos suitable for shunting large loads of up to 6000 tons to a range of workshop shunting “Crab” locos suitable for shunting inside a workshop or warehouse. Very popular in Europe, the products are becoming more acceptable in South Africa with delivery of units to both military and Transnet sites in recent times.
