BRITISH AIRWAYS is keen
to move away from the
perception that its focus is
limited to perishables into
the UK.
Regional commercial
manager for Africa, Patrick
Fehring, stresses that the
airline sets aside a lot of
capacity for general cargo and
is also aggressively marketing
its enhanced shorthaul
freighter programme into
Europe which now serves 11
major European cities.
“We are often perceived to
be sitting on the periphery of
Europe, but this service really
allows us to compete from SA
with carriers that fly directly
into Europe,” he told FTW.
It’s especially attractive for
Milan, Stockholm and Oporto
which are not served directly
from South Africa. Competitors
move cargo by road to these
destinations, he added.
