Shipping major reaffirms Reunion hub

Tuesday saw the official opening of CMA CGM’s new offices in Reunion, a day ahead of the inauguration of the new Port Reunion.

The Island now becomes the CMA CGM Group’s maritime hub in the Indian Ocean.

“By offering five weekly calls rather than the previous three, the Group links Reunion Island with Europe, Australia, Asia, India, East Africa, West Africa and South Africa,” says vice-chairman Rodolphe Saadé.

Of relevance to the local market is its MIDAS service which is the only service linking the Reunion Island to East Africa, South Africa, West Africa, Arabian Peninsula and India, says Saadé.

This is the culmination of a process initiated in August 2014 when Saadé signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at making the Reunion Island the Group’s strategic maritime hub in the Indian Ocean.
