A new market has been integrated into the expanding operations of Scan Global Logistics (SGL) with the establishment of its first office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
This entry into the Tanzanian market strengthened SGL's position in East Africa, allowing it to address the increasing demands of a significant economic hub while bolstering its presence in a rapidly developing region, a statement by the multinational freight forwarder said.
The company indicated that having a local office would enable it to facilitate efficient customs clearance and provide dependable last-mile services tailored to the region's escalating requirements.
Lars Syberg, CEO for EMEA excluding the Nordics, expressed his belief that the Tanzanian market was experiencing a growing need for a robust local presence.
He said the investment enhanced SGL's capability to support its international partners and stated that the timing was optimal for SGL to establish itself in Tanzania, which would allow the company to accommodate the substantial growth anticipated in the East African region.
He also mentioned that the move ensured that SGL maintained the high standards it delivered in both origin and destination markets.
Jan Andersson has been appointed managing director and will lead a team prepared to offer customised solutions for local, regional, and global clients.
He remarked that access to the Port of Dar es Salaam provided SGL with a competitive advantage in serving landlocked nations such as Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, thus unlocking new opportunities for cross-border logistics solutions.
Andersson conveyed his eagerness to enter the Tanzanian market, highlighting that it allowed SGL to meet the rising demand from its customers.
Since entering Kenya a year prior, it has become apparent that many customers also have branches in Tanzania, presenting clear opportunities for growth.
He expressed his enthusiasm for leading efforts in Tanzania, with an entrepreneurial spirit deeply embedded in SGL's culture, ensuring innovative solutions were delivered tailored to customer needs.
The new office will provide comprehensive logistics services including ocean, air, project, road transport, warehousing, customs clearance, domestic services, and transit solutions aimed at landlocked countries.
This expansion aligns with SGL's strategic focus on capitalising on Tanzania’s burgeoning trade sectors such as agriculture, mining, and infrastructure development – areas that are seeing significant investment and growth.
The logistics provider aims to leverage this dynamic economy to position itself as a preferred partner for businesses operating within these sectors.
