Seminar will focus on CE Mark

EXPORTERS TO the European Community should wise up to the demands of the CE Mark - a quality standard developed by the EU to ensure the free movement of goods within the community - or risk having goods refused entry into the market.
The CE Mark sets out common essential requirements for products, as well as procedures, to assess whether or not they fall within CE parameters.
According to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, many SA companies are not aware that many of our exports have to meet these requirements, which is why they have arranged a breakfast presentation on the CE Mark to be held in Johannesburg on July 27 in association with the SA Quality Institute (SAQI).
CE Mark procedures vary from product to product and directive to directive. (A directive is EU legislation addressed to member states which sets out common essential requirements for products).
In some cases, particularly where high risks are involved, assessment by an independent body is required.
The seminar, which will is aimed at any SA company exporting to the EU, will be presented by a team from Bureau Veritas Quality International.
A South African manufacturer exporting under the CE mark will present a hands-on case study.
The charge is R199 for JMCCI and SAQI members, and R299 for non-members.
Further details are available from Pam Freeman at the JMCCI.
