Security training now mandatory

April 1 saw the introduction of Air Cargo Security Awareness Training – under Appendix B of the Technical Standards of Part-109 of the Civil Aviation Regulations. “This training is required by every single person working at an airport or who visits sensitive areas of the airport regularly,” says Bob Garbett of Professional Risk & Asset Management. “Sections of the industry have rejected the requirement for this training as ‘just another money making racket’,” said Garbett. But he makes it clear that this is the law – which was subjected to industry scrutiny before promulgation – and anyone without this qualification will not be allowed to enter airport premises.
