KEVIN MAYHEW AGAINST THE background of the demise of some BEE logistics companies in Durban, Sebenza Forwarding & Shipping Consultancy continues to grow and plans to establish its own premises in Jacobs. Established nine years ago, Sebenza is one of the country’s oldest BEE companies in the industry and already has its own premises in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pretoria. It also has a growing presence in Port Elizabeth and Richards Bay as well as an office at Heathrow in London. “We have built the company up and today have an impressive list of blue chip clients that we have serviced competitively,” says coastal director Aubrey Veeran. “In line with steady manageable growth which is self-funded we will be refurbishing an old warehouse in Bonnington Road that we have purchased,” he said. The new warehouse will use specially written software for the scanning of goods entering and leaving the stores, with direct access by its clients. Together with its major shareholder Makana, which represents former political prisoners, Sebenza has the contract to distribute telephone directories for Telkom nationally. This creates employment and growth opportunities for emerging businesses established by ex Robben Island prisoners. The new premises will be opened next year. Continuing to pave the way to successful empowerment is Sebenza’s coastal director Aubrey Veeran.
