Sealed tarpaulin adds in-transit security

Theft can be acted upon immediately KEVIN MAYHEW THE ISSUE of security, both in the handling of courier parcels at depots and when in transit, has generated a novel solution by Johannesburg-based Air Care Cargo – a tarpaulin sleeve over the airfreight container with seals. According to Air Care Cargo’s Paul Volck, the company introduced the new security measures to extend its existing in-warehouse television monitoring. This can be accessed by its security personnel at any time and anywhere over the internet. “It was all very well having a monitoring system at the point of consolidation and handling, but we were still vulnerable to theft between dispatch and receiving depots. The tarpaulins provide a cover that is fixed with seals making any theft possible only if the tarpaulin is cut or the seals are broken. This is instantly noticeable and we can act on it immediately,” he explained. Air Care Cargo specialises in the consolidation of courier cargo for dispatch to all South Africa’s major centres. Volck said that the market was presently very active locally.
