SA's Brics status in perspective

Compared to its Brics counterparts, South Africa is tiny, but within the context of Africa it is an equal partner, according to Collins Makhado, strategist for the South African Maritime Safety Authority (Samsa). Speaking to exporters in Cape Town recently, Makhado said the maritime industry in South Africa was focused on identifying opportunities in the broader sense of the word and not just domestically. “Initially we were very South African-focused but have come to realise that there is a much broader approach that is necessary to maritime.”
