Safmarine sets service delivery focus

SAFMARINE’S NEWLY appointed Gauteng branch manager, Colin Lambourne, has made improved service delivery a key focus for 2004.
Previously branch manager in Kwa-Zulu Natal, he brings to the position 30 years experience with the Safmarine Group.
Newcomer Jonathan Horn, former vice-president of Gemini Ernst & Young in Singapore, takes over his post in Kwa-Zulu Natal while previous Gauteng branch manager Neville Salmon has relocated to Cape Town to take up a new position as southern Africa manager responsible for Safmarine’s commercial operations in Namibia, Angola, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Lesotho and Swaziland.
Gauteng remains one of Safmarine’s most important markets, according to Lambourne.
“Gauteng-based industry, represented by some of South Africa’s largest importers and exporters, currently accounts for the bulk of Safmarine’s container movements. Our regional office in Johannesburg is also the largest in our South African network.”
Lambourne says indications are that exports will continue to grow, particularly for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and parts and component suppliers.
South Africa is currently the top e-business performer in the African region, with Safmarine Gauteng responsible for a significant percentage of online booking and web bills of lading, he added.
