Safmarine adds stack dates for on-line customers

SAFMARINE HAS enhanced its web site www.safmarine.com with a number of new and exclusive features. "For the first time, shippers and freight forwarders are able to plan the delivery of their export containers to the port of shipment by accessing up to date information on stack opening and cut off times, from a single web site," Jan van Dooren, Safmarine's e-commerce executive, told FTW. The line has, for some time, offered e-bookings, schedule enquiries, track & trace, vessel/voyage exchange rates and a web bill of lading. "In response to our customers' requests, we have now simplified our e-booking module, added door-to-door routings to our voyage enquiry window, and enhanced track and trace information with state of the art technology linked to our internal information systems." According to Suzette Smith, logistics and planning manager of South African shipper, SchŸmann-Sasol, it's a first web-bill for Safmarine and for SchŸmann-Sasol (and the Sasol Group of companies) not only in South Africa, but globally.
