... as P&ON works on scheduling
THERE ARE still no final decisions declared on what's to happen with the revised Safari service, nor with the new alternative service from P&O Nedlloyd as it withdraws from this SA-Far East ship-sharing agreement in April.
According to Safari sources, a meeting of the principals took place three days ago in Malaysia. The suggestion was that everything had been finalised satisfactorily and that the various senior parties were returning to their homelands to release the information on the new service.
PON, meantime, is still working on the fleet composition, scheduling and port rotation of its own new scheme, according to managing director Nigel Pusey, and the final words on this Far East-controlled service are only likely to be released from early next month.
But it will introduce a new SA-Far East option, he added, and it, in turn, will link into other parts of the present PON network, including the South American leg. It's a network which offers a multitude of promises, said Pusey.
The line has built brand new vessels for this service, he added, and these are currently being put into the present Far East-South America service which already has occasional calls to SA.
But we will certainly be ready for April, Pusey told FTW.
