Saf launches Asia – West Africa multi-purpose service

SAFMARINE HAS started a regular, multi-purpose vessel (MPV) service between Asia and West Africa. Greg Ulicki, Safmarine’s MPV executive, told FTW: “We have used the positioning voyages of our brand new, Chinese-built Safmarine Angela, Anita and Akwaba into Europe to determine if there is a demand by our customers on this trade. “Based on our success we have decided to open up a monthly service.” The new service kicked off with the return in early July of the Safmarine Akwaba from Africa to Asia filled with eastbound cargo on a Far East port rotation of Singapore, Zhangjiagang and Xingang (Tianjin). It will then begin the monthly service. This will offer fast transits to a selection of major West African ports – like Namibe, Lobito, Luanda, Pointe Noire, Libreville, Douala, Malabo, Sao Tome, Lome, Tema, Takoradi, Abidjan and San Pedro. It will also include Durban as its SA connection.
