Monday, 3 February, 1997 SAFMARINE TODAY announced the addition of New Zealand to its shipping route network.
In terms of a co-operation agreement between NZ Orient Line and Saferoute/Trutainer, the NVO (non vessel owning) unit of Safmarine and CMBT Lines, containerised cargo will be transhipped in Singapore for New Zealand, moving on a through bill of lading.
Breakbulk cargo will be shipped between Southern Africa and Jakarta on Unisaf ships where it will be transhipped for oncarriage by NZ-Orient Line's multi-purpose vessels.
The service will be marketed by Saflink in South Africa and Zimbabwe Shipping Services in Zimbabwe. Tasman Asia Shipping Company are the general agents for Safmarine in New Zealand.
