SAA defends interim CEO

The South African Airways (SAA) board has backed its newly appointed interim CEO Zukisa Ramasia following threats of protest action by the airline’s pilots association.

“Ramasia is the most senior and experienced executive at SAA and before her acting appointment occupied one of the critical portfolios, the airline’s global operations.”

FTW Online yesterday reported that the South African Airways Pilots’ Association (Saapa) had rejected Ramasia’s appointment after the resignation of former CEO Vuyani Jarana.

“The position adopted by Saapa gives rise to the suspicion that they represent an anti-transformation agenda,” said SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali.

SAA has called for constructive engagement with all labour unions to find solutions to help turn the insolvent airline around.

“Such statements are simply unnecessary, opportunistic and laden in hypocrisy,” he said.
