SOUTH AFRICA earned top spot among China's African trading partners according to figures released by China's General Administration of Customs. The US$2.22 billion (R24,42bn) worth of import and export trade between the two countries in 2001 was 8.4% more than during 2000. Exports were up 3,5% at $1,05 billion (R11,55bn) while imports increased 13,1% to reach $1.17 billion (R12,87bn). With just over half of the value of China's trade with South Africa, Sudan came in as China's second largest African trading partner, with Nigeria a close third.
