SA records trade surplus for June as oil imports fall

An increase in vegetable product exports and a downward slide in oil imports saw South Africa record two months of trade surpluses for the first time since the end of 2013.

The South African Revenue Service (Sars) said exports rose 1.6% to R90.3 billion as shipments of vegetable products surged by R1.1 (or 25%). Exports of mineral products, which include iron ore and coal, dropped by R1 billion (5%).

Imports increased 0.7% to R84.5 billion while purchases of mineral products, which include oil, fell by R2.1 million rand (14%)
