SA HAS slipped from 34th to 42nd in the World Economic Forum’s global competitiveness index this year, because of a perceived deterioration in the quality of its public institutions. Namibia also dropped from 47th to 50th place - putting both well below Botswana, Africa’s top performer in 36th place. This year, Finland edged the US out of top spot - with Nordic countries now dominating the top 10 positions, according to The Namibian.
