A SOUTH Africanled consortium is set to invest R850m to upgrade the aging 106-year-old Kenya- Uganda Railway over the next five years. The Rift Valley Railways Consortium (RVRC) was handed the 25-year concession last year, and this R850m upgrade is in line with plans to increase the cargo volumes moved along the line from the Kenyan port of Mombasa from the current 9% to 75%.
