The Cargo Connection appointed regional GSA

JOY ORLEK
SA AIRLINK has restructured and refocused to capture its share of the lucrative overborder market.
The Cargo Connection has been appointed GSA for the airline’s regional destinations, a previously unexploited market for SA Airlink which offers good coverage through its scheduled passenger services.
While the aircraft have limited cargo capacity, they are very well suited to the urgent small parcel and courier type cargo, an exciting new departure for TCC, according to managing director Gerd von Mansberg.
TCC will handle both in and outbound cargo, initially serving Beira, Bulawayo and Ndola. The airline will shortly announce two more destinations.
Von Mansberg, who returned from Bulawayo last week, sees enormous potential on the route, particularly for urgent cargo. “The airline’s reputation for on-time scheduling beats the competition hands down, and with a daily service on the route, it’s a clear winner for the express market.” On domestic routes it carries large volumes for the blood bank which has recognised its schedule integrity.
The changes are all part of a new management vision at SA Airlink where recently appointed managing director Alwyn Rautenbach and newly appointed sales and marketing manager Arne von Mansberg are confident of sustained growth.
And their vision extends to the airline’s handling division, Airlink Cargo International.
With SA Airlink, Martinair and Olympic Air in its handling stable, the division is gearing up to expand its portfolio.
“We’ve rebuilt our warehouse to accommodate additional airlines and upgraded security with the installation of CCTV cameras,” Arne told FTW.
Some of the domestic stations are handled by Transit Cargo.
