INVESTING IN training is investing in the future, and at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics its learnership programme has more than achieved its set objectives in the view of human resources manager Norma Fremantle.
The first learnership programme took on two students, both of whom have fared exceptionally well, she said.
“A career in freight has to start somewhere and doing their NQF3 level was a good starting point.
“They have now had plenty of exposure to e-learning, and we’ve moved them from department to department – both air and sea – to give them an all-round knowledge of the industry. It also helps them to marry theory to practice.
“As they complete each module you can see their confidence growing.”
Both have already been offered positions in the industry at attractive salaries, says Fremantle.
The current programme ends in November when Hellmann will take on a further four students, building on the experience already gained.
