Roll-out of national airfreight network begins

KEVIN MAYHEW CFR FREIGHT has begun the roll-out of a nation-wide network of airfreight offices and warehouses with the July 1 opening of its Cape Town International Airport office. The company’s recently restructured airfreight division – which operates as a strictly neutral wholesaler - has grown significantly over the past few months to take it closer to providing a “one stop service”, says managing director Uli Hatesohl. CFR will shortly announce the identity of a BEE-entity as a new partner in the company, he added. In the longer term, CFR is keen to introduce a truly global solution for LCL cargo. Supporting this will be its own operational software, which is almost complete, allowing it to link via EDI with its major overseas partners. “In practice this means that cargo can be moved within one system to and from any place in the world, and all documentation can be prepared and released in South Africa. Clients will then be offered access to a comprehensive tracking and tracing system."
