Christian Roeder has been appointed group chief commercial officer of the J&J Group, responsible for all activities on the Beira corridor. Roeder, who was previously based in Beira, has now relocated to Johannesburg.
“Our focus for the immediate future will be project cargo,” Roeder told FTW. “We launched a project division in 2017 and moved our first cargo several months thereafter.”
It’s a sector where he is confident of long-term growth. And while Roeder is upbeat about business potential on the continent in general, he says the biggest challenge is border inefficiency. The company has however developed an in-house system that facilitates pre-clearance and electronic document flow which helps to mitigate border delays.
The group’s diversified portfolio covers the full range of logistics-related services from vessel agency to final delivery.
Extension of its warehouse facilities is ongoing with additional facilities already handling growing bulk commodities moving through the port of Beira.
