Delays can be expected on
all major Eastern Cape road
routes due to major upgrades
and maintenance.
There is, however, no
indication of when work will
start on the proposed Wild
Coast toll road, which will
be the first toll road in the
province.
The 2015 national and
provincial budgets do
not include plans for the
controversial toll road, which
will speed up transit times
between the Eastern Cape
and KwaZulu-Natal.
Upgrades to the Eastern
Cape road network are vital
for the economic welfare of
the province as Transnet
Freight Rail is focusing
largely on bulk into the port
of Ngqura and leaving freight
to road hauliers to manage.
Work to keep the main
road arteries open is ongoing,
with attention being paid to
all the key routes.
