KEVIN MAYHEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE officer of the Road Freight Association, Sipho Khumalo, has welcomed the Budget allocation to road infrastructure in the hope that it will go some way not only to improving roads, but also efficiencies at other ends of the transport routes. “ We welcome the upgrade of facilities at the ports particularly because that impacts immediately on the quality of the road service we can offer as it will ease bottlenecks," he told FTW. He added that the amount eventually allocated to road infrastructure improvement would not be nearly enough to make up backlogs, but acknowledged that finance minister Trevor Manuel had to distribute what was available to benefit all players.
