Overall on-time ocean carrier schedule reliability increased by 0.9%, from 67% to 67.9%, in December 2017 compared to the previous month.

This is according to global shipment management software solutions company CargoSmart, which reviewed the schedule reliability of 23 ocean carriers across 12 trade lanes.

Five of the 12 trade lanes showed improved reliability in December over November last year with the Asia-South America trade experiencing the largest improvement – increasing by 10.4% – and the trans-Atlantic trade experiencing the largest decline – decreasing by 18.8%.

CargoSmart noted that the overall schedule reliability for the whole of 2017 ranged from 55.7% to 70.1% with the lowest reliability recorded in January and the highest in June.

Additionally, the top ten most reliable carriers of 2017 were CCNI, MCC, Evergreen, Cosco, Safmarine, CMA CGM, OOCL, Wan Hai and Maersk Line, in that order.

“The schedule reliability is determined by comparing the estimated time of arrival and actual time of arrival at the discharging port,” said a CargoSmart spokesperson. “Reliability is calculated by dividing the number of on-time vessel arrivals by the total number of vessel arrivals within the measurement period.”
