Renfreight turns dog minder

A RECENT call from Lusaka to relocate three wild dogs from Johannesburg Zoo to the Munda Wanga Wildlife Sanctuary started off as just another straightforward logistical exercise for global freight provider, Renfreight. But when it was discovered that the 737 aircraft flying the route could not accommodate the crates, a change of scheduling became necessary and a freighter aircraft was lined up for the animals, said Renfreight project manager Peter Palmer. By this stage the Johannesburg Zoo had tranquillised the wild dogs and did not want them returned. Palmer and Lee Stewart from Munda Wanga Wildlife Sanctuary had to monitor the dogs every two hours until 09:30 the following morning when they were loaded on board the freighter for their new home at Munda Wanga.
