Reefer operators join forces

Ray Smuts LAURITZENCOOL and NYK Reefers have entered into a long-term tonnage sharing agreement with effect from January 1, 2004. Each company will continue to market and negotiate its own services drawing from a combined fleet of more than 70 specialised reefer vessels between 375’-760’ cubic feet - all boiling down to maintaining individual independence. The two players have also agreed that as of January 1, 2004 NYK Reefers will acquire 50% of LauritzenCool Logistics, a wholly-owned subidiary of LauritzenCool. LCL, as it is more commonly known, is a logistic service company offering integrated services and multi-destination door-to-door solutions for perishable goods to growers and exporters as well as importers and retailers.
