The focus falls on reefer logistics and who should control the supply chain at a one-day conference – Reefer Logistics 2012 – to be held at the Spier Conference Centre in Stellenbosch on October 24. The event will address issues like the dramatic and ongoing reduction in capacity of the specialised reefer fleet. This will inevitably deprive the South African citrus industry of an alternative to container lines with severe implications for the South African citrus industry. Should the change be viewed in a positive or negative light and can it be reversed? Supply chain control will also be an area of focus, exploring the role played by producers, exporters, shipping companies, importers and retailers. The high-level speaker lineup includes the likes of Stuart Symington of the Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum, Luvuyo Mabombo of the PPECB and Dawie Ferreira of Capespan. The event is organised by Cape Town-based Execucon Events.
