RICHARDS BAY harbour will invest R50-m in piling to support the new dry bulk jetty.
The project is due for completion on October 5 this year. It involves the construction of 116 piles in four rows extending 300m from the existing quay wall into the harbour and takes place from floating equipment at a water depth of 20m. Piles are a combination of 1,2m and 1,8m with depths ranging from 30m to 66m.
Transnet awarded the contract to LTA Civil Engineering and Ground Engineering, together with joint venture partners Interbeton of the Netherlands and
black-owned SA company Development Construction International.
