R70m biomass fuel plant for Coega

Ed Richardson BIOMASS FUEL is to be produced in the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) following an announcement by the Eastern Cape Biomass Fuel Pellets company that it is setting up operations in the IDZ. Products from the R70-million investment will be supplied to the European market. According to the chief executive officer Willie Claassen, the company has already secured agreements with the Nordic Countries. Production is scheduled for August 2007 with the first export due in November. Biomass is an environmentally friendly alternative source of energy used to fire power stations and private homes in Europe.
