R50m earmarked for Free State industrial park upgrade

Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies.

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) has allocated a budget of R50 million for the second phase of the refurbishment of the Phuthaditjhaba Industrial Park – one of the five industrial parks  identified by the department for its revitalisation programme this year.

Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies said: “The dti identified a need to revitalise state-owned industrial parks located in various parts of the country, mainly the former homelands, as part of its efforts to promote industrialisation, manufacturing and job creation.”

He added that the dti would like to see the parks operating as centres of excellence and beehives of economic activity, contributing to the growth and diversification of the country’s economy.

“The revitalisation process will ensure that the upgraded parks appeal to private investors, provide a conducive environment, and attract investments that will create jobs and assist in promoting economic transformation,” Davies commented.
