CONSTRUCTION IS expected to begin within the next three months on the first secured, purpose-built commercial and industrial park in the Zambian capital of Lusaka. The 80 000 m2 site is being developed on Mungwi Road, which is regarded as a prime industrial location. Based on similar facilities in South Africa, it will be fully secured with an electric fence, patrolled by security guards and gated. Modern features will include a paved road suitable for heavy-duty superlink trucks with parking and loading facilities. There is also a railway spur on the site. Purpose-built warehouses from
1 000m2 to 5 000 m2 with attached offices will be available on long-lease to prospective clients involved in trading, freight forwarding, warehousing and other commercial and industrial activities Zambia has no purpose-built warehouses, according to the developers. “We’ve seen the concept in South Africa and believe it will fill a gap in the Zambian market.”
