Cloud-based clearing is fast becoming the norm as agents switch to hyper-connected solutions shaped around using Software-as-a-service (Saas) techniques.According to CJ Pagel, director at Easy Clear, “the rigid structures of old IT models will not maintain evolving and ever-changing freight requirements, let alone the advance and pace of technology”.Whether it’s booking, tracking, invoicing or final delivery, these services are all becoming Saas-orientated.“They’re all being done through the cloud and all that is needed is an internet connection.“Current systems can’t talk to each other because the technology applies to what the business does today instead of exploring how technolog y re-imagines the business.“New advanced systems are good at managing constant technological change.”Basically, it’s about being reactive or pro-active, he says.Practically, Pagel contends that with outdated silo-software too much time is wasted on systems not connecting w ith one another, systems that are reliant on manual processing, which is error prone regardless of personnel support, and that results in “the creation of configuration of reports that are too complicated and often inefficient in providing the right kind of information”.Saas solutions, in Pagel’s view, can “eliminate business risk and loss of business continuity through a reliable cloud option, and come complete with constant back-ups, mirroring at various data centres, firewalls, as well as enterprise-level security for peace of mind”.They also enable faster access to information because of diminished reliance on personnel, cutting down on staff costs and related delays, as well as improving customer satisfaction through pinpointed data updates. An accredited cloud-based clearing platform has been tried and tested by the revenue services, says Pagel. “Digitising, data-democratising and disrupting is the thing to do if you want fast, fuss-free freight solutions.”
