Ocean freight heavy-lifter Blue Water Shipping has followed through on intentions to expand its Southern African operations by opening two offices, one in Cape Town and another in Walvis Bay.

Positioning itself on the Atlantic seaboard confirms Blue Water’s intent to ramp up involvement in the green energy and extraction sectors.

An executive for the Danish logistics group, Anders Maul, said: “Our expansion in Africa is driven by adding value and maintaining close market reach, aligning with the needs of our clients for a local presence in Africa.

“We are particularly excited about the dynamic development in the region, as well as the recent oil discoveries.”

His portfolio of expertise – energy, ports and projects – will be locally steered by Gerald Povey, who has more than 40 years of industry experience.

"This marks the beginning of an exciting expansion step in a continent full of opportunities for Blue Water,” Povey said.

“I am eager to collaborate with the global offices to strengthen our position in the transport and logistics industry in Africa."

Blue Water is expected to invest in Namibia’s growing wind, solar, hydrogen, oil, gas and mining sectors.
