EASTERN CAPE agricultural, tourism and business leaders have called for the prioritisation of the rebuilding of the rapidly deteriorating R72 which joins the East London and Port Elizabeth metros. Traffic volumes on the R72 have increased over the past three years and it has become the preferred route among truckers. Adding to the pressure is the reduction of shipping to East London as Transnet has effectively moth-balled the port.
